Fireman's Fund Underwriter of the Year
Last November, Fireman's Fund underwriter Tom Gibson received the Personal Insurance Underwriter of the Year Award from the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas (IIAD). He was nominated and chosen by agents throughout the metropolitan area, who recognized Tom for his professionalism and knowledge. He received the award at the IIAD Industry Day that 900 people attended.
Heritage RewardsSM Grant in Texas
Wm. Rigg Company and Fireman's Fund recently awarded a $15,000 grant to the La Porte (Tex.) Fire Department. The grant money will be used to purchase much-needed equipment for the department.

La Porte's emergency dispatch system will receive an upgraded software program to improve service when residents call 911. When an emergency call is placed, the new computer program will automatically create a record, which will help eliminate errors and streamlines the reporting process.
Along with the computer program, La Porte will also receive 10 new oxygen bottles. The tanks will be worn as part of a firefighter's self-contained breathing apparatus, allowing them to breathe in hazardous environments such as burning buildings.
"We know this program will have a positive impact on thousands of local residents in La Porte," said Art Flanagan, senior vice president of Wm. Rigg Co. "Our firefighters provide a tremendous service to the community and we are proud to support these dedicated men and women who help make our neighborhoods safer."
Commercial Plants Green Coverages
Fireman's Fund introduced three new Green Coverage products at the Greenbuild conference last November in Denver.
Greenbuild is organized by the U.S. Green Building Council, which established the LEED (Leaders in Energy and Environmental Design) green building certification standards. The show attracted 975 vendors and over 12,000 attendees, including building owners, facility managers, architects, contractors, developers, builders and consultants.
Over the course of three days, Fireman's Fund participated in a number of interviews, round tables and speaker sessions, generating a groundswell of recognition and interest. Steve Bushnell, product director and creator of Green Coverages, was invited to speak on an educational panel, where he was praised for being a first-mover in the arena of green building insurance coverage.
Steve said, "It was the first time I received applause when talking about insurance products. The people I spoke with afterwards were truly excited about the leadership role that Fireman's Fund has taken — and we're already seeing new business opportunities as a result of the conference."
