Supporting Firefighters is Our Heritage
Firemans Fund Insurance Company, a premier property and casualty insurance company, was founded in 1863 with a mission to give a percentage of its profits to the fire service. It was a good idea then, and its a great idea now—because fire departments are being asked to do more than ever before.
Today, we continue our founding mission through the Firemans Fund HeritageSM program, which provides millions of dollars in grants each year to support the fire service.
Heritage Goes Grassroots
Although our Heritage program began as a series of large regional grants, individual fire departments and fire and burn prevention organizations across the nation are now eligible for grants and volunteer support on a year-round basis.
Firemans Fund Heritage is about helping to better protect the communities where our agents, our policyholders, and our employees live and work. Although the program is national in scope, it is designed to work at the community level. By directly supporting local fire departments and non-profit groups, we help create programs that are customized to the specific fire safety and prevention needs of a community.

How Grants Are Awarded
Grants are awarded for the purchase of equipment, fire prevention tools, firefighter training, fire safety education and community emergency response programs. Through the program, Firemans Fund employees and independent agents nationwide submit grant nominations and are offered opportunities to volunteer with their local fire departments.
Agents who offer Firemans Funds products and services can direct grants to fire departments in the communities where they do business. Grants start at $5,000, and are based on the growth of an agency's business with Firemans Fund. This issue contains the story of one agent who took part in the grant process, directing an award to a fire department with a lean budget in California.
Firemans Fund employees also nominate fire departments and fire service organizations for grants. Well tell you more about that process in our next issue of the Firemans Fund Heritage eNewsletter.
