Providing Manpower to Support Local Fire Departments
|

|
Awarding grants is only part of what we do to support firefighters around the country. Weve expanded the Firemans Fund HeritageSM program to include our own workforce of more than 4,000 employees nationwide and encourage them to volunteer with fire departments in their community.
Connecting through Fire Corps
Firemans Fund also recently became the first national company to offer employee support to fire departments through Fire Corps, a program affiliated with the Department of Homeland Securitys Citizen Corps.
The mission of Fire Corps is to enhance the ability of fire departments to utilize citizen advocates and provide individuals with opportunities to support their local fire departments with their time and talent.
Fire Corps helps connect individuals to local fire departments needing help with non-emergency projects, such as administrative duties and fire safety education.
Firemans Fund is spreading the word about the program and encouraging fire departments around the country to sign up. Ultimately, Fire Corps will make it easier for fire departments to find volunteers, and for volunteers to discover the needs in their communities.
A Day to Get Involved
Firemans Fund employees volunteer at fire departments throughout the year  assisting with fundraisers, painting curbs or building a fire station. Every fall, however, the company offers employees the opportunity to spend a business day volunteering in the community. Last year, many employees chose to spend their "Day of Sharing" with the fire service. In fact, our employees from across the country donated more than 1,000 hours specifically to efforts related to the fire service. Here are some examples:
- Atlanta  conducted home improvement projects at the family home of a fallen Alpharetta, Ga., firefighter
- Chicago  distributed public education materials for the Chicago Fire Department, conducted firehouse improvement projects at the Summit, Ill., Fire Department and volunteered at Loyola University Medical Centers Burn Center
- Dallas  repainted a helicopter landing pad for the Rolling Oaks Tex., Volunteer Fire Department
- New York  served as docents at FDNYs Fire Zone, an interactive fire safety learning center and cleaned and restored artifacts in preparation for the opening of the Nassau Fire County Firefighters Museum
|

|
- Philadelphia  collected funds for the Philadelphia Fire Departments Hero Scholarship Fund, which assists the widows and orphans of fallen firefighters
San Francisco Bay Area  installed smoke detectors in several mobile home parks in the community served by the Windsor Fire Protection District and performed landscaping work
