Our Beginnings
In 1863, ship captain William Holdredge founded Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company in San Francisco. Our name celebrates the founder’s arrangement to pay 10% of company profits to support the widows and orphans of firefighters. We continue to honor firefighters 150 years after our founding through our Heritage Program®. This initiative supports firefighters by providing grants for vital equipment and training.

Our Inspiration
From the beginning, we have modeled our guiding principles on the heroic yet reserved attributes of the firefighter: caring, courageous, dependable and inspired. We promise to continue demonstrating those qualities in the years to come as we partner with agents to serve policyholders to help protect their way of life.
